Our Registry/Cake Adventure

For our three year anniversary, we decided to check some of our wedding related things off the list...not that I have a list (I'm not that organized). One thing that I was really looking forward to was cake testing. Ok, so this is probably horrible of me but we already sort of have a set cake. It comes with our cruise package so there was no way I would be able to have my beloved cake testing... or was there? I'll just get down to the point. We did some cake testing anyways. What can I say... I love food! Don't judge me.

Sorry no photos of our cake testing time but if you're in Lexington, I highly recommend Martine's Pastries. I am so disappointed we won't be able to use her because she is amazing! I will continue to think of some way to have one of her cakes... after party maybe? They're not only beautiful (she's featured in Brides Most Beautiful Wedding Cakes) but the samples she gave us were delicious! She was also super sweet and while her prices are definitely not cheap, I found them to be quite reasonable considering what you get. I'm so jealous of whoever gets to work with her, if we were getting married anywhere around this area we would definitely have booked her immediately. Alas we aren't so I will move on...

Next up, our registries! There's something just so fun about running around with a scanner gun and marking everything that you like.

For the most part I pointed and Tanna scanned.

But I wasn't able to justify everything. Even with my attempts at explaining all the things this beauty can do "We can make our own pasta!" For some reason Tanna didn't agree that was worth it.

He was more drawn to beer related items. Needless to say, that didn't make it to our registry either.

And we ended the day with Melting Pot. Our registry/cake adventure wore us out and really, who doesn't love fondue?

Monday's Must Take Photos

Is it Bridezillaish of me to have a must take photo list? Oh well. I can't help but want to recreate some of the wedding photos that I see. They are too gorgeous not to try anyway. Here is one that we may try but fail horribly:

The "you make me weak in my knees so I will gracefully lean back while you support me with your strong man-arms" pose.

hm... this one seems more doable.

Then again, my clumsiness never ceases to amaze me. I can just imagine me trying to smoothly dip with poor Tanna attempting to keep my shaky self from breaking my neck. Should make for a memorable time and a great photo don't you think?

Bunnies Need Love Too.

From Etsy seller spreadthelove

My love is in class all day but we had a great celebration of both our anniversary/valentines yesterday- to be shared at a later date...it involves registries and cake!

25 Things

I figured I would join in the fun and post my 25 random things about my weird self so here they are...

1. I technically have 10 siblings (step, half and full) and whenever people ask me how many siblings I have, I literally have to stop and think for a second.

2. I’m in that awkward phase of being a college student/adult where I am still trying to figure out my appropriate style i.e. what’s too old and what’s too young? In short, I’ve decided that I need a new wardrobe.

3. I have had a journal of some sort since I was 5 and I still have some of them from elementary school. They’re quite comical actually.

4. I started kindergarten at 4 and progressed to “3rd grade” by 6. This was a private school where your grade was determined by how many booklets were completed (weird I know) when I transferred to public school, they decided to put me in 2nd grade (still one grade ahead) because they were worried I would get picked on by the older kids- thank goodness they did because I doubt I would have been ready anyway.

5. I have always been kind of anal about grammar, not to the point where I freak over tiny things, more when people over abbreviate or misspell simple words on purpose like "skool" ACK! What’s with teenagers these days? I do randomly create my own words though- confoggled for example.

6. I started out in middle school at just below 5 feet and sprouted up to 5’7 by high school. Those were hard times.

7. I’m majoring in Psychology and my minor is special education. I would like to be a pediatric behavioral/speech therapist but something tells me I will probably end up as an elementary school counselor (I’m a realist).

8. When I was around 3 I was running through a store that happened to have a large glass elephant...with tusks. Needless to say I ran straight into it and pierced my cheek leaving me with a scar to this day. It’s hardly noticeable unless I smile, then it looks like I have a dimple on my cheekbone. I actually learned to like it, it gives me character.

9. I’m always texting because I despise talking on the phone. (I refuse to use “u” for “you” and only “lol” if it’s absolutely necessary- although I still feel a little shameful when I use it.

10. I am god awful at math, I blame it on my poor math teachers growing up but really I just don’t think I’m programmed to understand it.

11. I over analyze EVERYTHING, which tends to make me a very sensitive person.

12. When I see people cry, it makes me cry… it’s quite odd really.

13. When I run on the treadmill I always have to stop at an even number. I don’t know why it just makes me feel better.

14. I am beyond terrible with directions. My excuse is that my cognitive map has dyslexia. No really, I remember things backwards/opposite from where they really were (left was really right etc.) That's why my GPS is a necessity for me.

15. I took dance class since I was 2 and quit at 15, I still regret this decision to this day.

16. It really disturbs me to see young girls in tons of makeup and hairspray (I can understand dance recitals) they grow up so fast already! Childhood is a beautiful thing…I guess I won’t be a pageant mom anytime in the future.

17. I was in the “100 miler” club in elementary school for 3 years and won a shirt for each year I ran over 100 miles. I wish I had just one of those shirts today because I would wear it with pride. Don’t ask me to run over 3 miles today though…

18. I have an intense fear of being kidnapped. Tanna will profess to this, I’m always exclaiming “but I might get kidnapped!” much to his dismay.

19. I am huge into music. I like all different types except techno maybe or teen pop type stuff but I’m very open to all sorts of styles. I used to only sleep with music on but I’ve recently been weaned off that habit.

20. Some goals of mine are to learn fluent French, sign language, play the guitar, and travel to Europe (the last one will be done this summer!)

21. I adore pugs and I cringe every time I hear people say they are ugly. Really how can you call that face ugly?? *ahem…Tanna..*

22. My hair has been nearly every color except true blonde. Natural red, black, brown, blonde highlights, blondish/orange (that was not a good look), bluish, cranberry red, purple… I was a strange teenager trying to express my angst I suppose.

23. I am deathly afraid of heights and needles. I avoid the doctors at all costs and even though I have always wanted to get a tattoo, my fear of needles stop me.

24. I have to be sitting on the inside when eating out. I’m not really sure why, maybe because it makes me feel more safe.

25. Apparently when I was very young (1-5), my mom claims I was incredibly neat and meticulous about where my things were to be placed. I must have had an identity crisis because now I tend to be disorganized and have been for quite some time. In 4th grade my teacher had to pay special attention to my progress on remaining neat. When I did well for the week she would write, “tidy Heidi” in my agenda :)

I told you I'm a weird one! I tag everyone to do a 25 random things about yourself, I've loved reading all the ones I've seen so far.

Bridal Envy

Don't get me wrong, I love our choices for our wedding thus far. I was set on a fall wedding and I'm happy with the decision to have a destination wedding. We're saving money in so many areas after all... but I still have those moments every now and then when I get a small bout of *dun dun dun!* bridal envy. I know it's horrible, I shouldn't allow my eye to wonder and get distracted on things that I just. cant. have. It's just there are so many beautiful weddings out there, how can I not notice? So I am going to let it all out here and now. It will be like therapy ;) If I were able to have another wedding where price/location was no object, here are some things I would seriously consider...

It would be a spring garden wedding..

incorporating pale pinks and loose organic bouquets with that "freshly picked" look

or maybe some peonies..

Le sigh.

A gorgeous designer dress

With equally gorgeous shoes

An elaborate tent-like reception

With creative/artsy centerpieces

Fully equipped with a fun candy bar

A Photo Booth

Perhaps an April Reed cake?

Or a multitude of yummy buttercream cakes!

topped with none other than Ann Wood.

And it would have to be documented by Still-Motion as well as an 8 mm film by Wes Jones for good measure. If you haven't seen either of their work, then you must!

Anyone else ever get a case of bridal envy?

Look It's Our Wedding Colors!

Sort of. Is it just me or do you begin to notice just about everything that is similar to your wedding colors once you decide on your color pallet? I'm talking things that aren't even wedding related! I'm noticing mobiles..

Shoes..

dresses..

Jewelry..

..

brooches..

etc...

etc.
And it immediately makes me not only more excited for the wedding but I also start to contemplate if there is some way I can successfully stick those things as part of our wedding (ok maybe not the dog bed) without looking like a mad women...usually to no avail. Still I can't help but feel that everything that happens to have our color combination was specifically created with our wedding in mind.. hey it feels justified enough to me!
